Working at the Tiger Ear Booth: The Ultimate Fun(d)raiser!

The Tiger Ear Booth is a staple of the fair and one of the most vital fundraising engines for our local Scouting programs. When you volunteer at the booth, you aren't just serving up the best deep-fried, cinnamon-sugared dough at the fair—you are directly supporting the youth, camps, and activities that make Scouting America great.

Working a shift is fast-paced, incredibly fun, and deeply rewarding. The booth is filled with energy, camaraderie, and the sweet smell of success (and cinnamon). Whether you are taking orders with a smile, expertly flipping dough, or coating a fresh Tiger Ear in sugar, your time and service ensure that our scouting traditions continue to thrive. Plus, it is a fantastic way to represent the Grand Teton Council in the community!

Rules and Guidelines

To keep the booth running like a well-oiled machine and ensure everyone's safety, all volunteers must adhere to the following rules:

Age Requirements: Volunteers should be at least 14 years old to work in the booth.                                 For safety reasons, only adults (18+) are permitted to operate the deep fryers.

Hygiene and Food Safety:

Hands must be washed immediately upon entering the booth and frequently throughout the shift.

No drinks at work station they need to be kept in designated areas

Hair must be pulled back and secured. All volunteers must wear a hat or a hairnet.

Attire: Dress for a warm, active environment.

Shirts: A clean Scouting Class B t-shirt, a designated booth volunteer shirt, or a plain, modest t-shirt.

Pants: Jeans or long shorts are permitted.

Footwear: Closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes are strictly required. Absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, as hot oil and heavy equipment are present.

Food and Drink: Volunteers may have a closed-lid water bottle to stay hydrated. Drinks are not allowed at work station and must be kept in deisgnated areas.  Eating inside the food preparation area is not allowed.

Expectations of Our Volunteers

As the face of local Scouting, we expect all volunteers to live by the Scout Oath and Law while in the booth.

Be Punctual: Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled session. This allows time for handwashing, putting on an apron, and receiving a quick hand-off briefing from the previous shift.

Be Cheerful and Courteous: You will be interacting with hundreds of fairgoers. A warm greeting, a polite "thank you," and a positive attitude make the Tiger Ear experience memorable for our customers.

Be a Team Player: The booth has several stations (cashier, dough rolling, frying, sugaring, expediting). Be willing to jump in where you are needed most, and communicate clearly with your fellow volunteers to keep the line moving.

Stay Busy: If there is a lull in the line, use the time to wipe down counters, restock supplies, or prep boxes for the next rush.

Signing Up for Sessions

We rely on the dedication of our scout units, parents, and leaders to fill our schedule! Here is how the sign-up process works:

Shift Structure: Shifts are typically broken down into 4-hour blocks (e.g., Morning Setup, Mid-Day Rush, Evening Prime Time, and Closing).

How to Register: Secure your spot by visiting the council's online registration portal (available via our main website or the Black Pug system). Slots fill up quickly, especially for evening and weekend shifts, so early registration is encouraged.

Volunteer Perks: As a massive "Thank You" for your hard work, volunteers typically a food token worth $9, plus a complimentary Tiger Ear to enjoy during your break!
