2024 Asia Central District Chess Gambit

Event Details

Come join us for a day of education and competition at the 2024 Okinawa Boy Scouts of America Chess Gambit ! 

All are welcome!  Open to anyone of any skill level.  Register online by May 28th!

When:           Saturday, June 1, 2024

Open play, free instruction, and Chess Merit Badge work from 0900-1100

Tournament starts 1130 (Round 1: 1130-1210; Round 2: 1220-1300; Round 3: 1310-1350, Round 4: 1400-1440, Round 5: 1450-1520)

Awards ceremony from 1530

Where:          The American Legion (outside Camp Foster Gate 6)

Brackets:     Five brackets –   5-7 yrs old /  8-9 yrs old / 10-14 yrs old / 15-17 yrs old  / 18 +

Awards:        Each participant receives custom tournament patch; trophies/medals awarded to first, second, & third for each bracket.

Who may participate:  ANYONE! THE EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Tournament participants must know the basic rules of chess – how the pieces move, the object of the game, castling rules, check/checkmate, etc. – and should be mature enough to handle victory and defeat. Free instruction will only be given before the tournament; no instruction on the basic rules of chess will be given as part of the tournament.

Cost:  $10.00 – includes refreshments, chess instruction, tournament entry, and chance for additional door prizes

Tournament rules will be explained before start of the tournament, including touch move – if a piece is touched it must be moved.  Detailed tournament rules will be printed and available at the American Legion starting at 1100 on the day of the tournament or available upon request.  Please read the rules carefully!

Registered Scouts should wear their field uniform.

A responsible adult must be on site through the tournament.

Chess sets will be provided - no need to bring one!
