Location: MCAS Iwakuni, Iwakuni, Japan

First Day of Camp / Check-in: Sunday, June 12, 2022, 1300

Last Day of Camp / Checkout: Saturday, June 18, 2022, 1000

Registration Deadline: Thursday, May 19, 2022

I know everyone has been waiting on baited breath for this announcement. Due to contruction and after many alternate site surveys and request to several locations we finally have a home for Camp Tama 2022.............MCAS Iwakuni Japan. We are working with the Aquatics folks on base and we will be offering a fabulus aquatics program. I am working to get scuba  We have an entire olympic size pool to ourselves. All meals will be made for you so no need to bring cooking gear. We may also be offering an excursion to Miyajima Island, on Friday, home of free roaming overly friendly dear and a world heritage site.

Dates for camp. Arrive June 12, 1300 and leave by June 18, 1000. 

Transportation:

There are many ways to get to iwakuni, some options are:

From tokyo- shinkansen

-fly to iwakuni-

fly to Hiroshima and then train

-overnight bus(cheapest)- There may be some opportunities for troops to share busses.

from Okinawa- fly to hiroshima and take a local train

- fly to iwakuni

- fly to fukuoka on peach and take the shinkansen

We are working to assit travel from the shinkansen, train station, and airport to our camping location.

Registration Steps

1. Complete an online registration on this site for each person attending camp. Each youth attending will need to pay a deposit of $100. Full payment will be due on May 19, 2022. Monthly payments may also be selected.

2. Upon completing registration here, please indicate your merit badge preferences by completing the merit badge survey. If you would like to change your preferences, please complete the survey again. We are working hard behind the scenes to help you get as many of your top choices as possible, but please know that the availability of each merit badge will be subject to many factors, including popularity, instructor availability, weather, and other logistical factors. Scouts may also sign up for First Class Trail (up to 4 sessions) by using the merit badge survey.

3. If you do not already have access to MCAS Iwakuni, please ensure that your unit leadership submits your name and upload a copy of your passport during registration for inclusion on the gate list. The deadline for submitting your name for gate list access is May 27, 2022. If you are a third country national (TCN), other than Japanese Passport Holders, your name and a copy of your passport will need to be submitted by no later than May 13, 2022.  Please reach out to your unit leader without delay if you require assistance with any gate list procedures.

4. Each participant will need to complete a medical form (Parts A,B,C), which requires a doctor’s visit. This form will be needed by your Scoutmaster on the first day of camp, so please be sure to send it to your Scoutmaster as early as possible.

5. Certain merit badges have additional merit badge fees associated with them. If you have chosen one of these merit badge classes, you will need to pay these additional fees at the time you complete final checkout on May 19.

Other Important Announcements

We are currently looking for merit badge counselors. If you would like to volunteer as a merit badge counselor, please complete the merit badge counselor survey at your first opportunity. We would be most grateful for your help!

There will be a trading post at camp, which will have snacks and necessary camp supplies available throughout the week. Each Scout attending should bring spending money for incidental items that need to be purchased at camp.

Members of the Order of the Arrow will have certain unique activities available to them throughout the week. Please be sure to bring your OA sash to camp.

***COVID-19 Specific Refund Policy: A full-refund will be provided for those that register for Camp Iwakuni who can't attend due to COVID-19 reasons.  To get the refund Scouts BSA, Far East Council, Asia-East District will need to get a letter, memo, or something from the employer/unit commander/base commander to specifically confirm that the scout and/or volunteer has been directed not to attend due to COVID-19 reasons.***
