Scouts Gambit (in observation of National Chess Day), is Saturday, June 4th at Camp Kinser Chapel. Guidelines, Rules, Flier and registration detail are all here on this website. Tournament play is in three brackets: Lions/Tigers/Wolves, Bears/Webelos/Arrow of Light/Junior STEM and Scouts BSA/Venture/Sea Scouts.

FEC Asia Central Scouts Gambit Chess Classic Scouts BSA Tournament

Advance entries only!  Absolutely no registrations at the door!

What is it?  The Far East Council Central District Scouts BSA chess tournament!

When is it?  Saturday, June 4, 2022, 8 am check-in.

                     0800-0930 = Chess Merit Badge Work

                      5 rounds:  10am, 11am, 1pm 2pm and 3 pm.  Lunch is 12-1 pm.

                     Awards ceremony at 3:30 pm.

Where is it?  Camp Kinser Chapel, BLDG 1092, Okinawa, Japan

Brackets?  Five brackets – Lion – Wolf / Bear – AOL / 10-14 yrs old / 15-18 yrs old / 18 +.

Awards?  Each participating scout receives custom tournament patch; trophies/medals awarded to first, second, & third for each bracket.            

Why participate?   Fun and challenge! Controlled mental competition, w/ award recognition

Who may participate:  Any Cub Scout BSA Scout, Venturer, or Sea Scout with a clear understanding of the rules of chess.  Participating scouts must know the basic rules of chess – how the pieces move, the object of the game, castling rules, check/checkmate, etc. – and should be mature enough to handle victory and defeat.  No instruction on the basic rules of chess will be given as part of the tournament.

What are the details?  The cost is $15.00 per scout.  Tournament rules will be explained before start of the tournament, including touch move – if a piece is touched it must be moved.  Detailed tournament rules and logistics are provided on-line at the time of registration.  Please read the rules carefully!

What to bring?  Each Scout is to bring a bag lunch– no peanuts or tree nut ingredients please!  Scouts should wear the field uniform.  A responsible adult must be on site through the tournament.  Chess sets will be provided - no need to bring one!
