2026 Camp Dragon

Far East Council Camp Dragon 2026 offers a truly unique, once-in-a-lifetime Scouting experience on Okinawa, Japan. This is not a traditional merit badge university. Camp Dragon focuses on immersive adventure tracks, leadership development, cultural exploration, and unforgettable experiences.
Each Scout will select one primary adventure track for the entire week. Adventure tracks may include merit badge opportunities where appropriate; however, stand-alone merit badge classes will not be offered.
Camp Dragon is open to any Scout or registered adult leader in Scouting America.

Cost & Fees
Youth Registration: $550
Adult Registration: $250

Under the Water (Scuba Adventure): +$400
Adventure Track Selection (Required)
Each youth participant must select one of the following adventure tracks during registration.
On the Water Adventures
This adventure focuses on developing confidence, endurance, and safety in the water while exploring Okinawa’s maritime history.
Participants will:
Improve swimming ability and water confidence
Lifesaving, Swimming, and Kayaking Merit Badges
1 mile swim opportunities
Learn watercraft and aquatic safety
Explore the historical importance of sea travel to Okinawa
The week culminates with a personal best-effort swim and a snorkeling experience.
Under the Water – Scuba Adventure (Additional Fee Required)
This adventure is designed for Scouts seeking an intensive, underwater experience.
Participants will be placed into one of two tracks:
Certified Divers: Guided dives around Okinawa
New Divers: Discover Scuba and Open Water Certification training
Important Information & Disclaimer:
Scuba diving is contracted through a third-party vendor
This is a full-week commitment
Participants will not participate in other adventure tracks, merit badges, or tours
No refunds will be issued if a participant cannot complete the course for any reason, including but not limited to:
Medical disqualification
Failure to pass swim tests or skill evaluations
Failure to complete required coursework
All participants must complete theI online coursework prior to arrival
Scouts are strongly encouraged to:
Practice swimming prior to camp
Be comfortable in confined spaces
Be able to equalize ear pressure before starting the course
Failure to complete required coursework prior to arrival will result in disenrollment from the Scuba Adventure with no refund.
Naturalist & Island Exploration Adventure (High Adventure 50 miler/ Regular adventure options)
This adventure explores Okinawa’s natural environment, history, and cultural heritage.
Activities include:
Hiking to Katsuren Castle
Learning about the Ryukyu Kingdom and the Battle of Okinawa
Visiting historical sites dating back nearly 8,000 years
Botanical garden research of Okinawa’s native plant and animal life
This adventure includes a one-night trek away from camp, during which Scouts may choose to complete the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge.
Scouting Basics Adventure
Designed for newer Scouts who want a strong foundation while still enjoying adventure.
Includes:
Beginner and regular swim tests
Water safety instruction
Nature exploration
Botanical garden visit
Core Scouting skills instruction
Cultural Experience Day
One full day during camp is dedicated to a guided cultural tour of Okinawa.
This experience is included in the registration fee.
Transportation & Arrival Information
Naha Airport Transportation (Included)
Arrival shuttles: 1200 and 1600
Departure shuttle from White Beach: 1100 on Saturday, April 4, 2026
Participants should note flight details in their registration comments
No lodging or accommodations are provided prior to the start of camp.
Base Access Requirements (MANDATORY)
Camp Dragon is held on an active-duty military installation.
All non-DoD ID card holders must:
Upload a clear image of their passport information page
All required paperwork must be submitted no later than February 15, 2026

Adult Leader Requirements
All adult participants must be currently registered adult leaders
Adult leaders may use the TDY/TAD No-Cost Letter to request command approval
Camp Facilities & Equipment
Showers and restrooms available on site
Trading Post available for camping essentials
Camping equipment is NOT included
Participants must bring tents, sleeping bags, and cots
Rental or purchase options will be announced closer to camp
