TRANSATLANTIC COUNCIL ADULT LEADER TRAINING WEEKEND

Join us for a weekend of training that can help enhance your outdoor adventures. We are offering a number of adult leader trainings in October. Read below for course offering details. Keep in mind that each course will run the full weekend. Due to the length of the trainings, there is not an opportunity to attend multiple classes.

Base cost for the weekend is $25.  Some of the courses have an additional cost for materials. The total price is indicated in the registration fee.

Classes begin Friday evening at 1900 and will run through Sunday at 1200.  Cost of the course includes meals on Saturday and Sunday (no meal Friday evening). Check-in is 5-7 (1700-1900) Friday, 6 November. You can tent or there is limited dorm-type rooms available. Indicate with your registration if you would like a room.

Course offerings are:

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)-- IOLS is a hands-on, experiential course designed for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and other adult leaders to gain confidence in leading Scouts outdoors. The training emphasizes the patrol method, teaching leaders how to manage a Scout-led troop while developing practical outdoor skills such as camping, cooking, fire building, map and compass use and responsible care of the outdoors. It also models effective teaching methods, learning games, and leadership techniques used in Scouting programs.  This will be the last chance in 2026 for leaders to obtain completion and help their unit achieve Training Achievement recognition for 2026.

No additional trek cost.

Certified Angler Instructor (CAI)-- This in-person course is designed to give Scouters tools and ideas to get Scouts fishing. We will ignite your desire to introduce Scouts to the wonderful world of fishing. A Scout's Life recent survey found that Scouts chose fishing as the fourth most preferred outdoor activity, yet only 35% go fishing within Scouting. You can become a Fishing Advocate for your unit, district and council and utilize fishing as a great tool for Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation. Share your passion for fishing.

Additional trek cost: $20; class limit is 10.

Leave No Trace, Level 1- Leave No Trace Level 1 equips participants with essential outdoor ethics, low-impact skills, and teaching techniques to promote responsible recreation.

Leave No Trace (LNT) Level 1 training is designed for individuals who want to learn and apply LNT principles in their own outdoor activities or prepare to teach others. The course covers the 7 principles of LNT including planning ahead, minimizing campfire impact, proper waste disposal, respecting wildlife, and leaving natural and cultural features undisturbed.

Additional trek cost: $35; class limit is 10.

Range Safety Officer and BB Gun Range Master--A Range Safety Officer (RSO) is a certified individual trained to organize, conduct, and supervise safe shooting activities and range operations.

A BB Gun Range Master oversees all aspects of BB gun shooting activities for Cub Scouts, ensuring safety, proper instruction, and adherence to BSA policies.

Wilderness and Remote First Aid--the course teaches essential first aid skills for emergency situations in remote environments where professional help might be delayed.

The Wilderness and Remote First Aid program is designed for individuals who work or spend time in wilderness or remote settings, such as outdoor enthusiasts, scouts, camp counselors, and professionals in remote areas. The course focuses on advanced first aid skills that are crucial when immediate medical assistance is not available.

Prerequisite: current adult CPR/AED certification
