SPECIAL NOTICE- before you register as a Lone Scout & Counselor, read this notice first!

As many of you are aware, the BSA National Office has approved the increase to national registration fees. Effective 01 January 2020 all Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA Scouts, Venturing and Sea Scouts youth will now be required to pay a $60.00 National BSA Registration Fee and all registered adult leaders will be required to pay $36.00 for their annual National registration fee.  Additionally, al TAC Scouts and registered adult leaders will be required to pay a $39.00 Overseas Council Fees for all paid youth and adults in all districts when they recharter.  Also, Lone Scouts do not have access to Scoutbook to track their advancement achievements.  To that end, we are starting a virtual Pack, Troop, and Crew for Lone Scouts called Unit 802.  By electing to transfer from the traditional Lone Scout program into our virtual Scout Units you will be paying for an extended charter through December 2020 under the current fee schedule ($42.25 for Scouts and registered adults) AND have immediate access to ScoutBook. Conversely. if a Scout family elects to remain in the traditional Lone Scout program you will need to continue to submit manual advancement reports without the functionality of being able to monitor your Scouts progress using ScoutBook, additionally, you will need to renew your Lone Scouts registration using the newly announced higher fees, which now total $99.00 for Scouts and $75.00 for registered LS Counselors & Friends after 01 November when the new payment feature is in place. Registering in Unit 8002 will give you an immediate savings of $89.50 for every Lone Scout and LS Counselor & Friend that transfers into this new virtual program!  But time is running out for you and your family to take advantage of these savings! November 30th is the end date to transfer and pay your fees to join our virtual Scouting program; all paperwork must be submitted to Nation before the end of November…so now is your time to take advantage of these savings and this opportunity.  Please complete an adult and youth application and indicate that you are transferring from the Lone Scout program to Family Pack or Troop or Crew 802. Adults need to also provide a copy of their current Youth Protection Training certificate and should include a signed copy the additional background authorization form as well.  Applications for Lone Scouts and Counselors can be uploaded through this site.  Please make sure you indicate that you are joining Unit 802.

What is the Cost of Registration in the Transatlantic Council, Boy Scouts of America?

The fees for registration per person for 2020 will be:

$60 - Youth Lone Scout BSA Registration

$36 - Adult Lone Scout Counselor BSA Registration

$39 - Overseas Council Fees for all paid youth and adults in all districts

BSA Registration Fees

Boy Scouts of America has made the difficult but necessary decision to increase the annual membership fee effective January 1, 2020.  Please note that this change will affect all TAC youth and adults who are going through the process of charter renewal this fall—as those fees being paid are for the new charter year from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.

Every dollar of the national membership fee will go toward the cost of essential services, including liability insurance for those participating in approved Scouting activities, program resources, safety standards, youth protection and personal safety training, and services to councils nationwide to sustain Scouting.

The National Council will also continue to develop and improve resources that support our volunteers and youth members such as online registration, Member Care and Scoutbook, which now includes the Den Leader experience to ensure the safe and consistent delivery of Cub Scouting; as well as improvements aimed at simplifying the annual renewal process.

In Transatlantic Council, we will continue to bring Scouting to our military and civilian communities and families.

Overseas Council Fees

The council leadership is committed to providing the greatest quality program available to our scout families. The total cost of operations is approximate $298 per registered member. Income to cover these costs comes from the Overseas Council Fees, Friends of Scouting, government and foundation grants, camping and activity fees, etc. The council provides support to local communities to establish and maintain scouting units. A minimal staff supports hundreds of volunteers with camping and program activities, literature and books, insurance as well as guidance and support in the operating methods of Scouting.

The Overseas Council Fee was implemented in 1992 to support overseas council programs with funds that remained in Transatlantic and Far East councils. The fee currently helps offset the additional costs of the Transatlantic Council that are incurred due to our unique territory and constituent base. The fees charged to DOD families reflect that the DOD grant no longer covers a substantial part of the costs of having an overseas program while the Non-DOD fee helps us to comply with a grant restriction that Department of Defense funds cannot be used to support Non Department of Defense youth. Therefore, we assess an administrative fee of $39 per youth or adult member with this year’s recharter.

Structure of Overseas Council Fees

The Executive Committee took action to restructure the fee, simplifying the collection process, as well as aligning with the new online fee payment process being introduced with Internet Rechartering for the 2018 year.

Since January 1, 2018 the Overseas Council Fee is only charged at the time of recharter. Monthly prorated fees are not collected in order to facilitate the rapid processing of new registrants. The objective of this change is not to increase the total amount paid by Scout families, but to simplify the process while maintaining the same level of support to the council.
