Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Scouting America promotes a culture where each youth, volunteer, and employee feels a sense of belonging and builds communities where every person feels respected and valued. Leading by example and encouraging each other to live by the values expressed by the Scout Oath and Scout Law, we welcome families of all backgrounds to help prepare young people to serve as successful members and leaders of our nation’s increasingly diverse communities.

Sustainability and Waste Reduction
As leaders in Scouting, it’s our responsibility to set an example for environmental stewardship. At this spring’s Charlemagne District IOLS course, we will focus on eliminating unnecessary waste, particularly single-use plastic bottles and disposable paper products. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, mess kits, and durable gear to reduce our environmental impact. By embracing sustainable practices, we not only protect the outdoors we love, but also teach our Scouts the value of conservation and personal responsibility, core principles of the Scouting movement

Please register no later than 22 February.  This is required so that adequate materials and food are available for everyone.  The participation fee for the course is $40, which includes food from Saturday lunch to Sunday breakfast. If anyone has special dietary needs for medical or religious purposes, please let us know and we will accommodate you as best we can.

WHO:  IOLS is required training for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Crew Advisers, and Associate Crew Advisors. It is recommended for Troop and Crew Committee Members, Charter Org. Reps., Webelos Leaders, Cubmasters / Assistant Cubmasters and Pack Committee Members interested in learning basic outdoor camping skills for the Scouts BSA Program.

Participants will receive credit for completion of Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (S11). Leaders who have also competed the online Position Specific Training or have taken Scoutmaster Specific Training (S24) will then be considered fully trained.
