Help Your Council or Unit Deliver a Quality Fishing Program through the Transatlantic Council CAI (Certified Angling Instructor) Course

This course is designed to give Scouts and Scouters tools and ideas to get Scouts fishing. We will ignite your desire to introduce Scouts to the wonderful world of fishing. A Scout’s Life recent survey found that Scouts chose fishing as the fourth most preferred outdoor activity, yet only 35% go fishing within Scouting. You can become a Fishing Advocate for your unit, district and council and utilize fishing as a good tool for Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation. Share your passion for fishing.

Course Highlights

1. Become recognized as a Scouting America Certified Angling Instructor an Official Train the Trainer Certification CS-61. Receive a CAI patch, name tag, and certificate.
2. Learn basic fly-fishing skills - fly casting, fly tying, knots and how to teach them. Receive electronic copies of the Power Point slides.
3. As a CAI you will have an opportunity to get fishing and fly-fishing equipment at greatly reduced rates for teaching Scouts.

Fishing is a Favorite Outdoor Activity for Scouts

Fishing with Scouts is an outdoor activity providing Scouts with fun, skills development, family participation and strongly supports sound conservation awareness. Fishing receives very little support from most councils yet has great opportunity with minimal investment. Our Camp Avantura offers a High-Quality fishing program where scouts have learned Fishing, Fly Fishing and Fish and Wildlife management techniques while earning 24 Fishing and Fish and Wildlife Management, 6 Fly Fishing Merit badges and 6 Complete Angler awards in the first session with Fishing Camp. As a CAI you can make fishing a priority within your scouting world.

Who should attend?

The CAI course is for Scouts and Scouters (volunteers & professionals) who wish to learn how fishing enhances Council, District and Unit programs, supports current and potential Merit Badge Councilors. Perfect also for Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, and Venturing leaders. Come and join the Transatlantic Council and catch the excitement by learning how to deliver a high-quality fishing program to our units.

Who: Scouts and Scouter: Age 15 and up.

When: May 9th through June 13th, 2026

(This course will be conducted over six consecutive weeks on a Saturday. The course begins on Saturday 9 May and conclude on June 13.)

Time: 1600 to 1800 Central European Time

Total Course Fees: $30.00 This pays for course materials and patch, name tag, certificate and mailing fees.
