NRA RIFLE & SHOTGUN INSTRUCTOR AND RSO COURSE

Supporting the BSA Range and Target Activities Program

Formerly the BSA Shooting Sports Program

The NRA Certified Rifle and Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course is a 4-day course planned for Saturday and Sunday, November 16 & 17 and December 14 & 15, 2024.  Instructor Candidates must 21 years old and attend the entire course to become NRA Certified.  Currently certified NRA Instructors may attend individual rifle, shotgun instructor or RSO courses to add any of these certifications.  BSA allows only NRA Certified Instructors and RSOs to conduct and supervise BSA rifle and shotgun shooting activities, be a Rifle and Shotgun Merit Badge Counselor, or teach NRA Basic Rifle, & Shotgun courses.  Other youth organizations and businesses also recognize NRA Instructors and RSOs for their shooting programs.  The 4-day course requirement resulted from NRA requiring all Rifle and Shotgun instructor candidates to successfully complete the Basic Rifle and Basic Shotgun Shooting Courses before taking the NRA Instructor Courses.  Each of the two Basic Courses is one day in duration, beginning at 7:00am, and will be presented on November 16 & 17.  The Instructor and RSO Courses will be presented on December 14 & 15, also beginning at 7:00am. Attendance and completion of all courses is required.  NRA Instructor Certification and RSO Certification will be awarded by the NRA following satisfactory course completion.  It is recommended that attendees bring a lap-top computer because much of the course material is now in digital format and not available in printed form.  Contact the Lead Instructor for additional information or with questions.

PLACE:               Spanish Trail Scout Reservation, 315 Pat Covell Rd., DeFuniak Springs, FL

REGISTRATION & PAYMENT:  Registration and payment are completed simultaneously online at https://scoutingevent.com/773=nra24.  This must be completed prior to November 4th. Course seating is assigned, in the order registration is received.  Once seating capacity is reached, attendees will be placed on a standby list.  Anyone that registers and pays the course fee and then is unable to attend, their payment will be refunded.  Those on the standby list will move up.  No one will lose their money.  Once registered, you will receive additional detailed course information.  For additional information prior to registering, contact the Lead Instructor.

Registration information that may be required is full name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, age, date of birth, and NRA member number (if a member), Boy Scout Member Number, from your BSA Registration Card, (wallet card), your position in Scouting, and your Council name (if not registered in the Gulf Coast Council).  Once registered online SEND AN EMAIL to the Lead Instructor, with all the  information listed in the previous sentence.  Failure to send this information will delay your final course registration and seating assignments.

The Course Fee is $160.00.  These fees are based on the cost to put on the course.  The instructors, make no profit and present these courses as a benefit to our Scouting volunteers.

NRA Instructor Certification fees are payable directly to the NRA by each student upon course completion.  First time Instructor Certification fee is currently $35 for a 2-year certification for NRA members and $65 for a 2-year Certification for Non-Members.
