Sealing the blacktop parking lot for Orange Church of the Nazarene.

Where: Orange Church of the Nazarene at 159 West Nelson Street, Orange VA 22960

Parking is on the street near the church or at Orange High School football field parking at Orange Elementary School at 230 Montevista Ave Orange VA 22960 (it will make sense on-site).

Please don’t park at local business parking lots because we want to maintain good will with the businesses.

When: Saturday, September 26, 2026, 9:00 a.m. to…, well, whenever the job is done.

Lunch will be provided by the church at 12:30 p.m. 

Why: Cheerful service… it’s what we do.

Beyond that, Orange Church of the Nazarene is the site of the Orange Community Day Shelter.  This is a place where community members with no place to go during the day can get a meal, do laundry, access free wifi and other resources, and generally connect with community members willing to share their talents, expertise, and love.

How:  Prep work is being done by the church and Day Shelter Clients.  Materials and supplies are donated by Ace Hardware in Orange and church members.

At 9:00 a.m. we will do a final sweep/blow off of the church parking lot.  Push brooms and leaf blowers will be useful (please bring if you can).

At 10:00 a.m. we will have training on how to apply the sealant and then will begin applying the sealant.  We will use the "stiff push broom" method to apply.  Please bring a stiff push broom IF you are OK with it getting tar coated.

12:30 p.m. Lunch in the church.

1:15 p.m. work resumes.

The sealant is a petroleum product (think thick oil or light tar).  Please wear clothes that can be ruined AND be careful to keep the product off your SKIN, clothes, and shoes.  We don’t plan to ruin anyone’s clothes or shoes but please DON’T WEAR YOUR FAVORITES!

Have Crocs or slides or socks to wear at lunch so we don’t track in the sealant.
