Scouting For Food

Don't miss out on Scouting For Food! Register your unit to receive bags!

What is Scouting For Food? Scouting For Food (“SFF”) is a council wide food drive that is conducted over two days during November. SFF is designed for scout units and family members to work in their respective community supporting local food pantries.

  • Your unit picks up the bags on the distribution date.
  • Units will distribute the bags to scouts in October.
  • During November, scouts will place brown bags (provided by Council) on resident's front doors.
  • Each bag will have a flyer highlighting the purpose of SFF and asks the resident to place the filled bag, on the date that your unit has scheduled, by the front door.
  • In advance of SFF, the scout unit will locate and coordinate with a local food pantry who will receive their collection to keep the food in its community.
  • Scouts will pick up their bags and deliver them on the date their unit has scheduled with the local food pantry.

Our goal is for every unit in Rainbow Council to participate and help collect a combined 500,000 pounds!!!

Here is what we're asking of you:

  • Register your unit by September 28th.
  • Before October 1st, find and work with a local food pantry who will receive your collect.
  • Ask the pantry to be available on the day that your unit will be collecting food. Arrange specific hours to accept the food donations.

What To Do/Expect:

  • In early October – An email will be sent to the scout units who register for SFF informing them of when and where they can pick up their SFF bags. Select two dates in November:
  • Date 1 - Select a date that works for your unit to distribute brown bags. Commit 30-60 minutes to distribute bags at homes chosen by your unit.
  • Date 2 - Collect the brown bags, count the number of food items collected, deliver to your food panty, record your collection on the SFF website.

***Unit leaders, please register your unit service hours at https://servicehours.scouting.org***

This is the Journey to Excellence website for service hours. Use your login information that you used to charter (or recharter) your unit and record your service hours. You may print out certificates to present to your unit, charter, or use for recruitment for the different service projects. The service hours show what a difference scouting has made in the community!

Service hours can consist of many things such as Scouting for Food, unit trash pick-up, or donating time to sing or conduct bingo at a retirement center. Units, please log in your service hours. Packs, your den service hours may be entered as well.
