Annual Youth Empowerment Shelter (YES) Holiday Party

Saturday, 3:30PM-5:30PM, December 17, 2022

Who are the YES Youth?

• The YES (Youth Empowerment Services) Shelter is part of the Center for Family Services, and the Shelter houses Scouts BSA-aged boys and girls.
• Some youth come into the shelter with only the clothes on their back.
• Some youth have never received a present in their lives.

What can YOU do to help?

• You and your Scouting Unit are invited to collect gift cards and new items (not used items/clothes) to be given as presents for these youth, who are ages 11-17.

AND/OR

• You and your Scouts are also welcome to come and teach the YES youth basic Scout skills, like knot-tying, first aid, outdoor skills, etc.

New items and clothes for teenage youth such as duffel bags, socks, gloves, t-shirts, scarves, earmuffs, underclothes, shoes, stationery make wonderful gifts. When they leave the facility, they have nothing to carry their personal items except a trash bag, so a new sports bag/suitcase would greatly help. Gift cards to Target or Walmart for $10, $15, or $20 are needed when the youth go shopping, or can be used by the YES adult staff to buy larger gifts for all the youth.

• New or used PS3, Wii and X Box 360 systems and games (not for mature audiences) would be shared among all the youth.
• New or used table games, e.g., pool table; air hockey table would be a welcome addition, which all the youth could share.
• If you wish, you and your unit can donate pizza, desserts, donation, or other foods for the Holiday Party.
• Or use your keen scouting sense and imagination and come up with your own gift idea.
• Tell your Scouts NOW of your plans to help the YES youth, so the Scouts and their families can begin collecting gifts before the Holiday rush!
