Garden State Council NYLT 2026

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the premier outdoor leadership experience geared toward both present and future youth leaders within the troops, crews, and ships around Garden State Council. Participants will be engaged in hands-on training led by South Jersey’s finest youth staff that will cover criteria essential to leading within your unit, school, and life. Not only that, but your experience will reflect “one month in the life of your unit”, as characterized by the Official Scouting America NYLT Course. All this within a fun, risk-free, Scout-friendly environment.

This course will last for 1 week, starting at 12 pm August 9 and end at 6 pm Aug 14. 

This course is resident (stay over at camp) training experience.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

• In order to attend a NYLT course, a youth must have the following qualifications by the beginning of the course:
• Must be a registered member of a Scouting unit (Troop, Crew, Ship)
• Must have a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C.
• Scouts BSA members must be at least 13 years old by the first day of the course and no older than 17 years old. They must also have completed the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops and achieved the rank of First Class.
• Venturers and Sea Scouts must be at least 14 years old (or 13 and completed eighth grade) and can be no older than 20 years old. They must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews or Ships and have some basic camping experience.
• Have a unit leader recommendation.
• Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
• Have knowledge of basic outdoor skills (cooking, fire building, knots/lashings)
• Be willing to practice their new NYLT skills with their home unit
• Provide Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Forms (AMHR) Parts A, &, and C (this is a week-long resident program) [link to medical form below]

COSTS

• Registration includes all food and materials for the course
• Participants receive 2 NYLT Activity Shirts, NYLT Neckerchief, NYLT Tab for Uniform wear, and NYLT CSP.
