Seaperch Showcase

Event Details

Seaperch is an integrated STEM education program that engages Scouts through a real world engineering design project oriented around building an underwater remotley operated vehicle called a seaperch.

Longhorn Council SeaPerch Underwater Challenge Showcase

What is it? The Sea Perch program is an underwater robot controlled by an operator via a tether.

What does it do? The Sea Perch is built using the provided kit and directions and then the team must design and engineer various attachments to solve the underwater course challenges.

What Skills do I need? You will need to solder connections to make the control unit cut, drill, and glue the basic robot body. The big challenges will be designing and fabricating the attachments to solve the challenges.

What if I need help? Each team of 2-4 people will have an adult coach/mentor. There will be 2 build clinics, one in the northern service area and the other in the southern service area. Dates to be determined based on clinic instructors availability.

Who is in charge? Robo Nation is supplying base robots and some tools through a Department of Defense grant. We are currently working to fill additional STEM committee positons. Please let us know if you are intrested.

Coach Mentors - Each team of 2-5 youth will need at least one trained leader as well as one other adult for 2 deep leadership. A coach may coach more than one team.

Why the STEM Committiee and what does it cost? We need the STEM Committiee to oversee the program. There is no advancement or uniform required, but we encourage teams to have fun and be creative. Have your own shirt or other things to stand out. Current Scouts will be dual registered at no cost to join. Non-Scouts will need to pay Scouts BSA registration fee of $60. Every team member will pay $25 which will help offset the facilities cost of the program.

Start up Robot Kits are provided by Robo Nation and The Department of Defense (DoD), but some additional parts will be needed to complete build outs. Additional parts will be funded by each team, and cant be more then $35. The DoD encourages military families to join teams to foster STEM education, but the program is intended for everyone.
