THE EVENT: For 25 years the Longhorn Council’s largest Scout event and one of the most popular orienteering events held in the USA.  Orienteering is an international sport that consists of finding control markers in the field from locations marked on a map.  This year’s competition will start in the main camp area by the dining hall.

Each team gets a 5-color map for each participant 5 minutes before their race starting time.  There are 75-85 flags/markers shown on the map and you must find all you can in 3.5 hours. Some are easy to find & some are hard.  Each flag is worth 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 points, depending on how hard it is to find.

Plan your strategy to find the most flags and maximize your score!!  The Orange & White markers in the field are identified with a number to let you know if you have found the control flag. To prove you found the marker you punch your score card with the corresponding hole puncher provided at the marker.

Orienteering is a team event, so be sure to register by teams of 3-8 Scouts, Venturers, Explorers, Webelos, or Adults.  At least TWO registered adults must accompany each Webelos team.  Your team needs a compass and a watch or stopwatch so you’ll finish on time.

Participants should bring at least 2 full canteens or water bottles. There will be water stops in 2023, refer to your map for those locations. The sections of camp we use for orienteering have some areas of thick vegetation and can be very rocky.  Wear long pants and good trail shoes or boots.

ADULT REGISTRATION. All adults must register for Score-O, whether or not they participate in the competition.

NON-BSA PARTICIPANTS: Scouts and Scouters, invite your friends to this event! We want you to share the fun with everyone to get them interested and involved in the Boy Scouts of America! Non-BSA participants get the same experience as their friends, and there is no pressure to join – just to have fun!

TRAINING. Training for beginners will be offered every 30 minutes starting at 9:30 am thru 10:30am

Beginner Orienteering Clinics: will be on YouTube(link will be e-mailed out to participants)
