Scottish Highland Games Competition 2022

Featuring professional Scottish Highland weights and hammers, our Highland games combine traditional Celtic sports competitions that originated centuries ago in the Scottish Highlands with a few Scouting twists!  You will compete in challenging Celtic tests of strength, endurance, and skill as well as some events that are just for FUN! 

The Highland Games is an individual and team event for groups of 3-8 participants from Venture Crews, Teams, and Troops (AOL Dens may attend with a Troop).

Highland Games activities will run in the morning from 10:00 a.m. to mid-afternoon at Camp Tahuaya. These competitions are open to all Scouts (AOL Dens may attend with a Troop), Venturers, Explorers, and Scouters. All members of the teams are encouraged to participate in every Highland Games competition.

Units are encouraged to make and wear their kilts and clan flags! 

Gloves are recommended when using activity items to protect your hands.

Participants can make it a day event or camp all weekend at Camp Tahuaya. Camping for this event is limited to the first 300 participants to register. Meals are not provided.

NON-BSA PARTICIPANTS: Scouts and Scouters, invite your friends to this event! We want you to share the fun with everyone to get them interested and involved in the Boy Scouts of America! Non-BSA participants get the same experience as their friends, and there is no pressure to join – just to have fun! There is an additional cost to cover the insurance of a non-BSA member.

Highland Games T-shirts can be purchased during registration only. The cut-off date for pre-ordering t-shirts has passed. **Limited amount available for purchase through the trading post!**

Event classes will be by age:

“Light” 12 and under (Male and Female)

“Medium” 13-14 (Male and Female)

“Heavy” 15-17 (Male and Female)

“Professional” 18 - 21 (Male and Female)

“Adult” 22-49 (Male and Female)

“Masters” 50 + (Male and Female)

Both Individual and Team Ribbons will be awarded!

*** Adults are required to volunteer for at least one two-hour shift at one of the competition activities to ensure adequate staffing for everyone to enjoy the games *** 

In the attachments is a team roster that units must complete before arriving at camp.  All scoring is done via a mobile application. The accuracy of the awards is determined by the information you register with during sign-up.  We understand that plans change with Scouters and encourage you to notify us before the event of any participant changes via email to Jonna Martin at jonna.martin@scouting.org. We will do our utmost best to accommodate those changes before events start Saturday morning. When a unit registers, they will schedule an Arrival time at camp and a Check-in time at Registration. Units cannot begin the competition until they have checked in at Registration and received their badges.
