Classes start at SR2 Tower

Rock Climbing Instructor Course

Unlimited enrollment, preregistration required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead rock climbing and rappelling activities for single and multi-unit activities. Includes a Tower Certification Class that covers the SR2 Tower and the two towers at the NEW Longhorn Activity Center in Fort Worth.

The course is held Friday evening through Sunday on the dates listed on the flyer. Check in at the SR2 Tower (not at Hermit’s Cave) camping area at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. The fee includes all meals from breakfast on Saturday to lunch on Sunday. Please bring something for a cracker-barrel Friday night. Plan to arrive early and be prepared to start class no later than 8:00 PM on Friday, as the course will begin promptly. We will try and dismiss by 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon. You will not need to make a camp reservation. All registrations must be prepaid. After registering, participants will receive the course information and an outline of knots participants are expected to know on arrival for the class. As of 2015 the required course manual for climbing courses is BSA’s new Belay On, the new climbing/rappelling and COPE manual. It is only available for download.

Tower Instructor Course

Unlimited enrollment, preregistration required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead climbing and rappelling activities for units at the SR2 Tower and the 2 towers at the NEW Basswood Climbing & Activity Center in Fort Worth.

Tower training classes will be held at the Climbing Tower near the COPE Course at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. Check in time is 8:00 AM at the tower. The Classes will end at 6:00 PM. Please bring a sack lunch and lots of water/drinks/snacks. You will not need to make a camp reservation. As of 2015 the required course manual for climbing courses is BSA’s new Belay On, the new climbing/rappelling and COPE manual. It is only available for download.

Longhorn Activity Center Tower Instructor Course   (For currently certified instructors)

Free 1 hour site-specific training can be scheduled at the new Basswood Activity Center on request. These trainings are ONLY for currently certified Climbing instructors who would like to run climbing programs at the new Basswood facility. (BSA Climbing standards require a site-specific orientation for each new facility that a Climbing Instructor runs) Reserve at least three days prior to the training time (exception made if training for others is already scheduled). Training will be held regardless of weather. Basswood Tower operational training is also included in the ‘regular’ training program. Contact Gary Wilson at garywils@swbell.net to schedule.

Re-certification Courses: Tower Instructor & Rock Instructor.  For currently certified instructors.

The Climbing Re-Certification Courses are held at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. Both the Rock Instructor and Tower Instructor recert Courses start at the Climbing Tower. Anyone who has completed either the Climbing Instructor or Tower Instructor training may renew their training by demonstrating proficiency on that topic.  The course is from 8 AM till approximately 12 noon. Be sure to bring a lunch, lots of water, and gloves. You will not need to make a camp reservation. Renewal Courses now cover the SR2 Tower and the two towers at NEW Longhorn Activity Center in Fort Worth.
