Event Details

LHC USA Archery Level I Instructor Course

April 26th, 2025

Worth Ranch, LHC

Those wishing to run Troop and Venture Unit archery activities and to become an approved Archery Merit Badge Counselor, will need to complete the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification or above.

The class will start at 8:00 am at the Archery Range. The Practical class is a busy, hands-on 4.5 hours. We will break for a short lunch and continue BSA Shooting Sports policy, LHC Archery Policy, and how to conduct the Archery Merit Badge including arrow making and string making. This will take an additional 2 hours.

There is a three-step process to becoming a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor. One, register and complete the USA Archery Level 1 on-line Instructor course ($40). Two, register for the USA Archery Level 1 Practical on the USA Archery website (no cost). Three, register for Practical on the Longhorn Council Training page, and attend the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical at a LHC camp.

Again, a three-step process. First, go to the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification web page, register to take the on-line and successfully complete the On-Line Level I Instructor Couse. Cost $40 payable to USA Archery. It takes about 4 hours, is available 24 hours a day, and does not need to be completed all at once. Passing criteria on the exam is 75%. See link below.

Second, once the participant has completed the on-line Level I class, they must then register on the USA Archery web site for an in-person Level 1 Practical Course sanctioned and conducted by a Level II Instructor Trainer. The Practical Course involves applying what has been learned in the on-line class through activities on an archery range. USA Archery does not charge for this section. Go to the link below, locate the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical Class and register for it. See link below.

Third, the participant must also complete registration for the Practical class at the LHC camp through the LHC training page. The cost is $45.  (This is the page you are on now - click the REGISTER button in the top right corner!)

NOTE:

Registration needs to be complete 10 days in advance of the Practical class.

This class targets participants whom are 18 years or older. Youth, 15 and older, may attend with permission of the Instructor Trainer, and must be accompanied by a parent.

The USA Archery Level 1 Practical Class will be conducted at a Longhorn Council Scout Camp or Ranch. All Scouting rules are in effect.

Scouters should have a copy of their BSA Medical Form and their current YPT in case the Camp Ranger wishes to see them. Non-Scouters must be accompanied by a registered Scouter at all times.

The Practical Class is a busy 4.5 hours followed by BSA/LHC archery and MB Counselor information.

This class will be outdoors on an established archery range using camp and Instructor equipment. The class will start 8 to 8:30 am. After eating lunch the participant will provide, the BSA/LHC portion will continue for up to 2 hours.

Camping may be available if needed Friday night..
