LHC USA Archery Level I Instructor Course

To run Troop and Venture Unit archery activities and become an approved Archery Merit Badge Counselor, you must complete the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification or higher.

Course Schedule:

- 8:00 AM: Start at the Archery Range.
- Morning Session: 4.5 hours of hands-on practical training.
- Lunch Break: Short break for lunch.
- Afternoon Session: 2 hours covering Scouting America Range and Target Sports policy, LHC Archery Policy, and instruction on the Archery Merit Badge, including arrow and string making.

Certification Steps:

1. Complete Online Course: Register and complete the USA Archery Level 1 Online Instructor Course ($40). This self-paced course takes approximately 4 hours and is available 24/7. Passing score is 75%. [Start Here]

2. Register for Practical Course: After completing the online course, register for the in-person USA Archery Level 1 Practical Course on the USA Archery website. This practical session, conducted by a Level II Instructor Trainer, involves applying the knowledge from the online course. [Find Practical Courses]

3. Register for LHC Course: Register for the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical at our camp through the Longhorn Council Training page ($45). [The page you're on now! Register button is in the top left corner]

Important Notes:

- Registration Deadline: Please complete registration at least 10 days before the Practical class.
- Eligibility: This course is intended for individuals 18 years or older. Youth aged 15 and older may attend with the Instructor Trainer's permission and must be accompanied by a parent.
- Scouting Requirements: Ensure you have your Scouting America Medical Form and current YPT. Non-Scouters must be accompanied by a registered Scouter.
- Location & Equipment: The course will be conducted outdoors on an established archery range using camp and instructor equipment. The session will begin at 8:00 to 8:30 AM and conclude after lunch with up to 2 hours of Scouting-specific training.
- Camping: Available for those who wish to stay Friday night.
