LHC Lifeguard Training - August

Calling any and everyone who wants to get their Lifeguard Certification!

Longhorn Council is proud to anounce that we are offering the Red Cross Lifeguarding course. This is a terrific opportunity for you to get your Red Cross Lifeguard certification as your time at camp is right around the corner! The course is fast paced and hands on. This course takes place over a single weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 

Course Date

Friday August 28th - Sunday August 30th, 2026

This will be a blended learning course. All online material MUST be completed prior to arrival at camp Friday night.

Required Information:

First and Last Name 

Email address (individual one for each participant)

Medical form A&B, if staying at camp overnight

Emergency Contact Name, Cell Phone 

Additional Information: 

 Lifeguard Training: All participants must be at least 15 years of age to take the Lifeguard Training course.   

The online link for the class will be come from The American Red Cross no later than a week before the in person course. 

 Class Time Schedule:

Friday: 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Sunday: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Times may change depending on class size and how quickly requirements are done

Skills Prerequisite: Swim Tread Swim Sequence

150-yard swim non-stop swim using freestyle or breaststroke with the face in the water (goggles are encouraged)

Tread water for two minutes with the hands in the armpits (treading using the legs only)

Swim 50-yards non-stop, swim using freestyle or breaststroke with the face in the water (goggles are encouraged)

Swim 20 yards, retrieve a ten-pound brick from 7-10 feet deep water and swim back to the starting point keeping both hands on the brick in 1 minute and 40 seconds (goggles are not allowed)

Packing list:

- Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Review parts A and B

- Appropriate swimwear (longsleeve swimshirt recommended)

-Towel (for pool and shower)

-Snacks (You will be hungry between meals)

-Hat

-Sunglasses

- Water bottle

- Sun screen

- Tent

- Sleeping bag

- Sleepwear

- Toiletries
