*** A Letter from The Game Design Instructor ***

Dear students and parents,

My name is Bridget Hollingsworth, and I am going into my junior year as an Engineering Design major at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, the number one undergrad institution for engineering in the U.S. I have been teaching programming classes for 3 years now including, teaching the programming merit badge at the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation, Starting and teaching a Girls Who Code Club in Kingston NY, and I taught coding classes at great rivers council last summer. I have been working at various youth programs for 7 years now with a specific focus in encouraging youth in STEAM. I love working with youth and helping them connect creativity and STEM. I am excited to combine participants love of video games and creative ideas for new video games with the technical skills of coding to allow them to bring their ideas to life.

Throughout the Game Design camp participants will get to experience creating and designing their own game. We will be using Java based processing which will allow participants to readily create engaging graphics. The camp will start with an overview of processing and the creation of a basic template so everyone starts with the same blank screen. After this initial session, participants will be given guide sheets that will allow them to choose a direction for their video game. This camp is highly focused on connecting creativity and coding. Every participants end game should look very different depending on their desired outcomes. The knowledge basis for this camp will assume that participants have no prior knowledge of coding. However, those who do have prior knowledge will be able to go much further when creating their video games and should still be readily challenged and engaged. An instructor will be working one on one with students to help bring their creativity to life in an active and engaging video game.

Thank you for your interest, and I can't wait to see you at camp!

Sincerely,

Bridget
