Innovation Space - Astronomy Merit Badge 2024
Innovation Space - Astronomy Merit Badge
Join us at the Scouting Adventure Center for this special two day event to earn the Astronomy Merit Badge as part of the 2024 Innovation Space Merit Badge Series.
The Astronomy Merit Badge will be offered at the Scouting Adventure Center over two evenings separated by approximately a month. This format was created to provide scouts with two benefits:
First, basic terminology, technique and demonstration before the out-of-class assignments begin.
Second, multiple opportunities to observe the night sky individually and using the council equipment.
Most humans are casual and appreciative observers of the night sky; following the mechanics, locating the proper celestial bodies and understanding the cyclic nature of the heavens requires practice and time scales that extend through multiple observation sessions.
EDGE method instruction and ample time for the scouts to observe and complete the requirements through a lunar cycle are the goals of the two night class format. If available, bring a set of binoculars for each scout. Each registered scout will be provided with an Astronomy Merit Badge Book at the first meeting.
