Great Rivers Council Climbing Wall Level I & Level II Certification Course

 
Highly-skilled training to become a BSA-qualified Great Rivers Council Level I and II Instructor. This qualifies you to join our Council Climbing program staff and help run our safe and exciting Scouting Adventure Center indoor climbing wall.

  • Bouldering
  • Climbing Skills & Techniques
  • Belaying
  • Safety & Emergency Procedures
  • How to run a Great Rivers Council Climbing Wall Event
This is a 3 Session Event:
Level I Certification must attend Session 1a and Session 1b
Level II Certification must attend Session 1a, 1b, and Session 2
 
Session 1a: Thursday, August 8th, 5pm to 8pm (Required for Level I)
Session 1b: Thursday, August 15th, 5pm to 8pm (Required for Level I)
Session 2: Saturday, August 17th, 8:30am to 5pm (Must Complete Level I first)

 

This event is FREE, but you must register to attend:  Please bring your own meals, snacks, drinks. 

Registering for Level I certification allows you to sign up for Session 1a and Session 1b.  Level II Certification (Session 2) may be selected in the drop-down menu when you register for level I. 

 

 

 

 

Prerequisites for the course:

  • Must be 21 years of age or soon will be
  • BSA-registered adult (See https://beascout.scouting.org to register)
  • Take BSA Climb On Safely Training online (https://myscouting.scouting.org/)
  • Review Climb On Safely Guide at (https://www.scouting.org/outdoor-programs/cope/climb-on-safely/)
  • Physically able to belay a climber

Equipment

  • All Necessary Climbing equipment will be provided (ropes, harnesses, carabineers, helmets, shoes, etc.)
  • You may use your own personal helmet and/or harness once approved by COPE and Climbing Staff

Optional Equipment

  • Pair of Leather Gloves
  • Climbing Shoes

Must Bring the following Classroom Supplies:

  • 3 Ring Binder for Handouts
  • Notetaking Material (Notepad and Pen or Pencil)
