Science of Training

(formerly Fundamentals of Training)

and

Craft of Training

(formerly Trainer’s EDGE)

Are you someone who has thought about training to become a better trainer but you don’t know where to begin? Or maybe you have years of experience in training but want to add some pizzazz to your presentations? Come join us for a day of training to become a better trainer . . . but, it’s going to be so much more than “just training”!

The Science of Training and Craft of Training is for anyone interested in learning about different training methods. Both trainings will equip you with ideas, techniques, and materials for improving presentations by enabling you to select approaches that will communicate your messages - successfully, and with PIZZAZZ!!

All Scouts deserve well-trained and well-prepared leaders. An important aspect of being an effective leader is effective communication with audiences. The goal of this training is to help leaders develop, practice, and hone multiple skills and forms of essential communication.

In the Science of Training, participants learn the tools of good training including characteristics of good trainers, how people learn and training methods. The Craft of Training emphasizes the importance of “experiential learning,” or learning by doing, as well as numerous other contemporary training strategies. These strategies can then be applied to a wide range of training programs.

"These two courses help develop the skills of leaders and trainers. It's the perfect "train-the-trainer" course for any Scout or Adult Leader championed with the task of teaching others a specific program or skills. Although this training is required for Woodbadge staff, it
is highly recommended - and encouraged - for NYLT and Summer Camp Staff as well as other Scouts and Adult Leaders at the unit, district, and council leadership or trainer level.

At the conclusion of the training, you will be able to understand the principles of how people learn and equip yourself with a broad range of ideas, techniques, and materials, which will enable you to select approaches to communicate your messages most successfully.

Participants will be divided into patrols of 4 to 6 people for the duration of the course. A class staff member will serve as a Troop Guide for each patrol.

This all-day course is taught by Scouters who have years of training experience in the Great Rivers Council!
