The Basic Rifle and Shotgun Course is a required prerequisite for the May 12-14 NRA Instructor Course. 

Basic Course Dates: May 10-11

Basic Course Location: Camp Philips, 2900 16th St, Rice Lake, WI 54868 

Basic courses include classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles and shotguns. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

NRA Instructors are needed!

NRA Instructors are needed to supervise ranges during BSA events. Shooting sports is one exciting and unique programs that we offer. Trained adults 

Interested in becoming an NRA Rifle and Shotgun Instructor?

Step 1: Register for Basic Rifle and Shotgun Training (this event), or be able to provide proof of NRA Basic Rifle and Shotgun training. This requirement cannot be waived. 

Step 2: Register for May 12-14 Instructor Course held at Camp Phillips. Register here. 

Step 3: Successfully complete Basic and Instructor Training. 

Age requirements

Basic Rifle & Shotgun Course: 18
Although anybody can take these courses, it is reserved for BSA Registered Adults

Rifle & Shotgun INSTRUCTOR Course: 18. You must be 21 or older in order to be certified. BSA NCAP requirements also require that you are an 21+ Certified Instructor in order to be considered appropriate supervision.

Fees

Basic Course- $90 Includes instructional materials, meals, snacks, and ammo.

Instructor Course- $175 Includes instructional materials, meals, snacks, and ammo. (Register here)

What to bring:

• Sleeping bag
• Pillow
• Toiletries
• Clothing appropriate for the weather (you will be spending time outside)
• Pencils, pens, highlighter, and notebook
• 2- 2" 3 ring binders
• Optional: personal eye and ear protection

Do NOT bring ammunition or personal firearms unless preapproved by the NRA Instructor.
