Sustainability Merit Badge Location: Room 116 Science Wing, Jarvis Hall, UW-Stout
Parking: Lot 18, No permit required after 4pm.
Eagle Scout & UW-Stout Physics Professor, Alan Scott, will be the highly knowledgeable Merit Badge Counselor for this special event. So come prepared to listen, learn and have a great time!

April 11th, Agenda
Tour science facilities at UW-Stout.
Work on Sustainability Issues Regarding Energy and Stuff.
1. Introductions
2. Scouts will discuss the results of completing requirement #1.
3. Scouts will work on and discuss requirements #2 with attention to energy resources and stuff.
4. Homework: Develop and implement a family plan to conserve water and food resources. (Requirement #2, Part A for Water, Food)
In addition, complete requirement #6 where you review careers in sustainability and examine the details of one such career.
6:30pm Check-in. Show to the counselor work completed with requirement #1.

Heating Plant Tour
Water Resources
Community
1. Scouts will tour the heating plant on UW-Stout’s campus.
2. Scouts will participate and take notes on the merit badge counselor’s presentation on water resources. This is for requirements #2, parts B and C, with attention to water and community.
3. Homework: Keep a log of the “stuff” your family purchases.
(Requirement 2, part A, Stuff)
Select TWO categories from requirement #4 and have a discussion about these two categories with your family. Learn about these two chosen categories and be prepared to discuss your work with the group.
6:30pm Tour the campus heating plant.
7:30pm Check-in. Show the counselor your work on the homework completed.
7:45pm Merit badge counselor presentation/discussion of water and food resources.

Planetary Systems
Careers Related to Sustainability
1. Scouts will listen and take notes during college student presentation on Sustainability.
2. Scouts will work on requirements #2, parts B and C, with attention to food.
3. Scouts will work on requirement #3 which is about our planetary life-support systems and the harvesting and/or production of raw materials on Earth.
4. Scouts will discuss with the counselor their work on requirement #4 involving 2 of the following: plastic waste, electronic waste, food waste, species decline, world population, climate change.
5. Scouts and counselor will discuss and complete requirement #5 which connects the scout Oath and Law with sustainability and stewardship.
6:30pm Check-in. Show the counselor your work on the homework completed.
6:50pm College Student Presentation on Sustainability
7:50pm Presentation by merit badge counselor on planetary life-support systems and mining raw materials.
8:20pm Check-Out. Review of completed merit badge work and complete paperwork for badge.
