Fundamentals of Training
The course introduces teaching techniques and skills to new Scout trainers but is also designed to help all Scouters, regardless of their experience, present effective training. Intended for both youth and adult trainers, the course will help those who might have trained for other organizations learn the Scouting America’s training techniques, and it will help freshen up the skills of current BSA trainers. Wood Badge and NYLT staff are expected to attend.

Trainer's EDGE
Trainer’s EDGE is for any trainers wishing to enhance their training and presentation skills. It focuses on the platform skills of the trainer: preparation, subject matter knowledge, body language, and other skills, with a practical application at the end of the session.
Presenters of all levels and skills are welcome. Wood Badge staff are required to attend and NYLT staff are highly encouraged to attend. This training does not have an expiration date, but practice makes for a more knowledgeable and experienced trainer. Participants will have the opportunity to be in front of a small group which will offer feedback that will help improve their skills as a trainer. Likewise, each person will provide the gift of feedback for other presenters in a positive, helpful way.
Course Content
- Module 1—Platform Skills and the Gift of Feedback
- Module 2—Managing Group Behavior
- Module 3—Leading Discussions and Reflections
- Module 4—Participant Session — Provide practice in delivering participants’ prepared presentations and feedback.
