Wilderness Survival Merit Badge Workshop

Event Details

Muk Chapter (Voyageur District) of Kon Wapos Lodge, Order of the Arrow invites all Scouts BSA youth to camp by units at Bear Paw Scout Camp October 27-29 and to participate in a Wilderness Survival Merit Badge workshop. Optional activities will be available for those Scouts who have already earned the merit badge. This event is hosted by the Order of the Arrow chapter and open to all Scouts and adults, regardless of OA membership.

Registration fee: $5

Prerequisite: #5. Put together a personal survival kit and be able to explain how each item in it could be useful. Bring the personal survival kit with you to camp.

Units must reserve a campsite themselves and be responsible for preparing all their own meals and providing two-deep leadership at all times. Event staff will provide two-deep leadership to supervise MB workshop participants during the day and for the shelter overnight.

Friday, October 27

                       Arrive. Set up camp (Sunset 5:49pm, last light 6:19pm).

7:30pm          Cover first aid training items for Wilderness Survival MB

8:30                Dutch-oven cracker barrel

9:00                OA meeting

10:00              Taps / Quiet

Saturday, October 28

7:30am           Reveille

8:45                Flags formation

9:00                Merit badge instruction – signals, fire building, water purification, equipment, etc.

                       Optional service projects for youth not in MB workshop.

12:00pm        Break for lunch

1:00                Merit badge instruction – shelter building

                       Optional service project for youth not in MB – construction of permanent campfire ring at Munsee Campsite

                       Optional service project for adults not in MB – splitting / moving / prepping firewood for Maple Syrup season

2:00                Participants build their shelters (all together, somewhere between Handicraft, Ranges, Iroquois Campsite, and Munsee Campsite).

                       Shelter inspection

5:30                Flags formation

7:00                Scout’s Own Service

7:30                Campfire program emcee’ed by OA chapter officers

8:30                Campwide cracker barrel hosted by OA Troop Representatives

                      MB participant competition for best survival kit.

                       Information about LLD, camp staff, NOAC

                       Award nominations available for Vigil Honor, Arrowman of the Year, Unit Leader of the Year, Founders Award, etc.

9:30                Depart for campsites / shelters

10:00              Taps / Quiet
