STEMpede

Event Details

What is STEMpede?

Scouts, guided by dedicated leaders and Merit Badge Counselors, will see how science, math, and physics make projectiles shoot into space, how we impact nature, and explore their world. STEMpede features Scouting program activities incorporating STEM learning with cool Scouting activities.

All Bears, Webelos, Scouts BSA, Sea Scouts, and Venturers are welcome to sign-up for a weekend full of STEM merit badges, Nova Awards, STEM activities, and adventure pins. Guest appearances by Trebuchets, Catapults, Cannons, Rockets, Airplanes, Bridges, Towers, Boats and many more! These STEM activities and Merit Badge opportunities will take place Saturday while the Program Directors have Friday night through Sunday morning packed with many more events.

Bears and Webelos: Scouts will take part in a predetermined set of Adventures and activites throughout the day Saturday, with opportunities to engage with open programing later in the day. Please register your Scout for their current Den level of programming.  Cub Scout Programming for the weekend is built for Bear and Webelos Scouts ONLY: we look forward to your current Lion, Tiger, Wolf, and not-yet-registered Scouts joining us at a future STEMpede.  There will be no age-appropriate programming for Lion, Tiger, Wolf, or unregistered Scouts.

Bear Scouts can now attend STEMpede! Join our first ever STEMpede Bear Scout group as they learn about Earth Science by completing the DOWN & DIRTY NOVA AWARD! All requirements will be completed during the event and Scouts will experience fun and interactive ways to learn about Earth Science. Let’s get messy and with dirt, ice and water and learn how the world works! Bear Scouts will also get to experience STEMpede open programming and spend the weekend camping, eating in the dining hall and attending campfire program with Webelos, Venturers and Scouts, BSA scouts. All Bear Scouts must have an adult in attendance for the full weekend.

Webelos will be able to complete Uncovering the Past Nova award as well as the Looking back, looking forward adventure pin. Come check out all the fun at camp and see what kind of awesome programming you have to look forward to in Scouts BSA. There will also be guest appearances and a field trip to the Bay Lakes Museum. Webelos will become part of history (literally) at Bear Paw this year, you won’t want to miss this program!

Scouts BSA: Scouts will be able to select one or two merit badges OR NOVA Awards (dependent on sessions required for the merit badges and class offerings).  Counselors will sign off at their discretion based on participation in class activities, preparation, and completion of necessary prerequisites.  Merit badges offered are: Astronomy, Electricity, Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, Geocaching, Motorboating, Orienteering, Plant Science, Radio, Signs Signles & Codes, and Wilderness Survival.

Venturers: Various exploration programming will be available to Venture Crews and Venturers.  See registration for details.

The Order of the Arrow  has the option to participate in a service project for camp as arrowmen.

The BLC Scout Museum will be exhibiting exciting history at Stempede. We will have some history on James Lovell, a formal Astronaut and Eagle Scout, who had 4 missions going to space and circled the moon twice. James Lovell was with Scouts in 1971 in the Kettle Moraine Council, Sheboygan area. The Museum will have Memberships available for $10/year and also a special patch for $5 each.
