Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and Children of All Ages, get ready for the Greatest Show on Earth!

THE 31ST ANNUAL BARABOO CIRCUS HERITAGE will be held the weekend of May 19, 20 and 21, 2017, at the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo, Wisconsin.  This year’s Heritage theme is “MacGyver Challenge”.  MacGyver favors brain over brawn to solve the most impossible and adventurous of tasks, sometimes in a matter of minutes, and usually with common materials such as duct tape, gum wrappers and paper clips.  At this year’s Heritage, you can tap into your “inner MacGyver” to test your imagination and creative problem-solving skills as you complete physical, mental and multi-tasking activities.  BE PREPARED to test your skills on the archery, bb guns and sling shot ranges.  Race a Pinewood Derby car. Show off your cooking skills in the Dutch Oven and MacGyver cooking contests. New exhibits and activities are added each week - many of your old favorites and some new surprises are in store for you!

SATURDAY NIGHT MAIN STAGE

In the spirit of MacGyver, our Saturday evening show will be Lawnmower Racing.  Lawnmower racing is innovative.  Racers modify suburban grass cutters into race-day speed demons.  The American Racing Mower Association competitions allow races to ride any self-propelled rotary or reel-style riding lawnmower (but not zero-turn models), so long as the mower was originally designed and sold to mow lawns, and the mower must remain suitable for lawn cutting, though for safety’s sake the blades are removed on racing mower.  Racers can tinker with engines and transmissions to fulfill their need for speed.

DAVE KUCKUK MEMORIAL HERZLAUF (Heart Run)

Adults and youth attending the Heritage are invited to take part in the third annual David Kuckuk Memorial Herzlauf ("Heart Run").  The Herzlauf consists of a 5K chip-timed race, 5K walk and a 1 mile fun run. The event is co-located with the Baraboo Circus Heritage Weekend presented by the Glacier's Edge Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Race proceeds benefit scout camping.

Cub Scouts can use the promo code: ONMYHONOR2017

Boy Scouts can use the promo code: TRUSTWORTHY2017

Promo codes give a discounted fee for the race.

CAMPING AT THE FAIRGROUNDS
Grass-covered campsites will be assigned at registration. If units want to camp together, they will need to arrive at the fairgrounds together. The fairgrounds will be the starting and stopping point for all Heritage activities and the site of many activities. Cars must be moved to the parking lot. Sorry, no picnic tables are available and ground fires are not permitted. Only raised fire pits will be allowed. For more information on other private and public accommodations in the Baraboo area, you may contact the Baraboo Area Chamber of Commerce at baraboo.com or phone 1-800-BARABOO.

WHERE DO WE EAT?
Units are allowed to bring and cook their own food, following all Scouting rules with regard to food handling and preparation. There will be a commercial food stand available on the fairgrounds that serves fair type food. Circus World has concessions at their location.  In addition, there are many fine restaurants in Baraboo.

UNIFORMS
Scouts and Leaders are expected to wear their uniforms. Other participating youth groups are encouraged to wear distinctive distinguishing clothing, hats, etc. Show the pride in your organization that it deserves. All leaders are reminded to follow the most recent Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scout policies regarding adult participation on outings. You are also reminded that you are responsible for the youth under your care wherever they are during the entire weekend. Please be aware of where the youth are and what they are up to at all times. Thank you.

TRADING POST
There will be a Trading Post set up for all your Heritage souvenirs and Scout items. The Trading Post will be open Friday evening, Sunday morning and all day Saturday. Items will include 2017 Heritage patches, hat pins and many special items. There is also a limited supply of past Heritage items.

HERE COMES THE CIRCUS!
Circus history comes to life at Baraboo's World Famous Circus World Museum, owned by the Historical Society of Wisconsin. Your BCH registration INCLUDES admission to the Museum, to be used either on Saturday or Sunday.  Be sure to visit the Museum to tour the World's largest collection of antique circus wagons. Observe the thrilling demonstrations, colossal exhibits, and outstanding circus performances. The Circus World Museum is open from 9 am to 6 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

CIRCUS OPTIONS
The tickets you receive to Circus World Museum are good for EITHER Saturday OR Sunday. The activities at the Fairgrounds are held only on Saturday. So if your group wishes to participate in more activities at the Fairgrounds, you can delay your visit to the circus until Sunday. Please note that if you do wait until Sunday to visit the Circus, you must pack up and remove all of your belongings from the Fairgrounds before heading to Circus World. Circus World has plenty of parking. Circus World requires one adult for every 10 youth. Groups with a ratio greater than this may not be allowed to enter.

OPENING FLAG CEREMONY Saturday
Bring your Unit's Flags and take part in the Flag Ceremony on Saturday morning. If you have your state flag bring it also. This will be a great start to a wonderful day of activities. Let's see your flags in the flag procession!

SCOUTING MUSEUM Friday evening, Saturday
Be sure to visit the Scouting Museum to see Scouting's past in patches, books, and other historical items.
Patch trading will be allowed in the museum area. No cash sales allowed and the area will be supervised.  The Museum is made possible by a group of Scouters known as the Eight Ball Patrol.

PINEWOOD DERBY Saturday afternoon
Join in the fun. Pinewood Derby Races will be held on Saturday afternoon with divisions for boys and girls, ages 7 thru 10, plus an open class for ages 11 and up, including leaders. You can bring a car that you've already made. Awards will be presented after the races.

MAKE THE TRANSITION!
BCH is great place for Troops and Packs to get to know each other better. There are so many things happening at BCH that a Tiger Cub or an Eagle Scout will find something that interests them. Troops, invite your local Cub Packs to come along! And Cub Packs invite your local Troop to come along!

THE SIDESHOW Saturday morning & afternoon
There are always many exciting displays and activities at the Sideshow. Exhibitors may include Chess, Frisbee Golf, Blacksmiths, Blackpot Cooking and the Pedal Pullers Tractor Competition.  New exhibits and activities are still being added to the lineup.

CIRCUS WAGON Contest
The Circus Heritage Parade is coming around and you can be the star! Design and build your own circus wagon ahead of time on a coaster wagon or similar chassis. There are two classes of wagons: wagons built by those under 11 and by those 11 to 18. There will be separate divisions for wagons built by an individual youth and by a group of youth. Judging is based on craftsmanship, creativity, and the youth's knowledge of how the wagon was built. Interesting uses of materials, movement and music will also catch the judge's eyes. Top wagons receive trophies and all wagons entered will receive a Wagon Master ribbon. Stop by and vote for your favorite for the popular vote trophy.
Pre-Registration is strongly encouraged for planning purposes. You can pre-register through your online registration, you will find it under class selections.

COOKING CONTESTS Saturday afternoon
The tradition of culinary excellence takes new twists as older youth, as well as adults, participate in two cooking contests:

Bring your Dutch Oven and all the ingredients for your favorite dessert, and take part in the Dutch Oven Dessert Bake Off.
Bring a box oven or other “baker created” cooking device and all the ingredients for your recipe to enter the MacGyver Cooking Challenge.

The Heritage will provide recognition for the top finishers in both the Youth and Adult Divisions of each contest.

BOUNCE TENTS
Younger Scouts especially will enjoy the bounce tents!
