Wilderness First Aid and CPR

Event Details

Being prepared in Scouting often means being ready to render first aid. Additional training is needed as our units go farther into the backcountry. Wilderness first aid (WFA), the next step up from basic first aid, focuses on teaching assessment skills and using available resources when professional responders may be hours or even days away. It can dramatically affect the outcome of emergencies, injuries, and illnesses. It can mean the difference between life and death.

Who: Scouts and Scouters of the Glacier's Edge Council.   Basic first-aid training is beneficial but is not a prerequisite.

What: ECSI Wilderness First Aid Training.  The BSA WFA course is a 16-hour certification suitable for participants ages 14 and older. The BSA’s curriculum includes not only classroom instruction but also a practical hands-on application in the form of practice scenarios.

CPR certification can be added to this course.  This certification is in two parts.  Part one is online training before class at your own pace, and part two is hands-on CPR skills check at the end of day one.  With the CPR add-on option, the participant will be certified in WFA and CPR upon completing this course.
