NRA Basic Shotgun Course
Course Information:
This course includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate
This course is one pre-requisite for NRA Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Course scheduled May 12-14 at Camp Phillips. You must be at least 21 years old to become a certified NRA Instructor. People 18 to 20 years may become assistant or apprentice Instructors.
Who:
Open to registered Scouters 18 years of age and older.
When:
This course will be offered in two parts. Part I is the classroom session and will be held at the Madison Scout Service Center. Part II will be held at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation. There are two opportunities to take each part.
Part 1 Indoor Classroom Section, Thursday, April 27, 5:30 to 9:00 pm
Part 2 Outdoor Range practical: Sunday, April 30 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

Registration fee (includes student packet, ammunition, use of .s 12 or 20 gauge shotgun, and refreshments)
