NRA Basic Instructor Course and NRA Pistol Instructor Course

 

March 11 -NRA Basic Instructor Course and Pistol Instructor Qualification

            9:00 am to 6:00 pm

March 12 NRA Basic Instructor Course

8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Location: Deerfield Rod and Gun Club, 4372 Rod and Gun Rd, Deerfield, WI 53531

Course Fee: For Scouters $75 for each course, $150 for both

                   For non-Scouters: $100 for each course $200 for both

Course fee covers course materials, lunch and refreshment breaks. .22 semi-automatic pistols and ammunition will provided for participant not bringing their own pistol. . Candidates may bring their own pistol. 22 LR ammo will be provided for any participant using that type of gun. Live ammunition is not allowed in the classroom! Please leave all ammunition in your car until we move to the range to shoot.

Course fees will be collected at check-in. please bring cash or a check made out to mark Fessenden the NRA Training Counselor leading the course

NRA Instructor Courses and BSA Shooting Sports:

NRA Instructor certification is required to supervise and teach Scouts BSA and Venture Scouts in the use of a specific firearm. Under current BSA Shooting Sports policy pistols can only be used by Venture Crew Scouts. Scouts BSA may use pistols only as a participant in an approved Cowboy Action event at a BSA Scout camp.

Prerequisites for NRA Instructor Courses:

To take an NRA instructor course you must have completed an NRA Basic Instructor (BIT) course within two years of taking the course and you must have taken the NRA Basic Course for the disciple. There is also a qualification practical and shooting exercise that must be passed. This qualification covers basic gun safety and handling and a shooting practical. For pistol instructor shooting qualification, the candidate must place 16 of 20 shots into a 8 inch circle from a distance of 45 feet.

NRA Basic Instructor Course

The basic instructor course covers how to teach NRA course using the Total Participant Involvement methodology. You only need to take this course one time; it applies to all shooting disciplines. BIT courses are open to anyone interested if it fits your schedule better in preparation for a later instructor

course.

NRA Instructor Courses

In an NRA Instructor Course the candidates will be assigned portions of the NRA Basic course lesson plan to practice teach the course to with the other candidates in the course playing the role of students. Candidates will be evaluated by others in the class and participate in evaluations of the other candidates. Please note that because of the group discussion the is so important to the NRA Instructor course, all instructor courses have a minimum number of participants so please register early. If we do not meet the minimum number of participants by the registration deadline, the course will be postponed.
