NRA Basic Rifle Course

Course Information:
This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot Rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; Proper operation of bolt action and semi-automatic rifles, ammunition knowledge and selection, rifle selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, rifle inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with NRA certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, take the Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate.

This is a pre-requisite for NRA Rifle Instructor Course we are planning for soon after this class. 

Who:
Open to registered Scouters 21 years of age and older.

When:
Saturday February 11th, 2023, 8:00 am to 6:30 pm

Where:
This course is being offered in cooperation with the Rock County Rifle and Pistol Club and will be held in two sessions. Fee payments will be made to RCRPC.

Classroom portion held at the Milton Range
10853 N. Milton Rd.

Registration begins at 8:00 am. Class begins at 8:30 and runs until 1:00

(NOTE: NO LIVE AMMUNITION IS ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM)

Shooting portion held at the Janesville (Indoor) Range
1029S. Jackson St.
Janesville, WI 53547

Range practical 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm

Students may bring their own 22 long rifle- rifle and ammunition for this course- ammunition must meet RPRPC Range Rules requirements see <rcrpc.com> for range rules and directions to ranges

Registration fee (includes student packet, NRA course registration and lunch):
Registered BSA Scout Leaders $75         room for 5 students.

If you do not wish to bring a rifle or do not have one that meets RCRPC requirements a .22 bolt action can be provided for you.

Registration is open on the Activities Calendar on the Glaciers Edge Council BSA website, Glaciersedge.org. No fee collected at registration. Fees are handled by RCRPC on site.
