NRA Basic Rifle Course

Course Information: This course will be held in two sessions and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot Rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; Proper operation of bolt action and semi-automatic rifles, ammunition knowledge and selection, rifle selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, rifle inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a shooting qualification while on the range with NRA certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, take the Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate.

This is a pre-requisite for NRA Rifle Instructor Course. You must be at least 21 years old to become a certified NRA Instructor. People 18 to 20 years may become assistant or apprentice Instructors.

Who: Open to registered Scouters 18 years of age and older and Scouts BSA or Venture Scouts at least 14 years old. This course can be used to earn the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge

When: This course will offered in two parts:

Part I is the classroom session and will be held at the Madison Scout Service Center on Tuesday, February 17, 5:30 to 9:00 pm. Part II will be held at Stoughton Conservation Club Saturday, February 21 2:00 – 5:00 pm.

Registration fee- $30: Fee includes student packet, ammunition, use of .22 rifle. (Participants may bring their own .22 LR rifle.)
