Wilderness Climbing Weekend

Are you an older scout who is interested in climbing? Do you already have the Climbing merit badge and wonder what is next? Well, as John Muir said, "The mountains are calling and I must go." Come join us in the Ravine at Camp Mountaineer for a full weekend-long climbing and backpacking experience!  The Wilderness Climbing Weekend is a chance for Scouts who have already learned basic climbing skills to explore advanced climbing activities. This weekend will combine climbing and backpacking. Participants will carry everything they need for the weekend on their backs including the climbing equipment. This will simulate an alpine or mountaineering climbing adventure. Scouts will have the chance to develop skills like mock lead climbing, placing artificial protection, building top rope anchors, and other techniques at three different rock sites within the Camp Mountaineer property. This weekend is more for the Scouts to work with the staff rather than just being facilitated by the staff. Scouts will learn how to rig and will be responsible for the majority of their own rigging with staff supervision. Our staff for this event are all climbers themselves and subject matter experts in the field. This will be a jam-packed weekend of fun and climbing. We will climb and learn from sun up to sun down and maybe even after dark!
 

Who: Scouts BSA (older, experienced climbers). Capacity: 12 Scouts, unlimited adults

When:  Saturday, April 13 ; 8AM - Sunday, April 14; 5PM (times to be confirmed) 

Where:  The Ravine at Camp Mountaineer, Morgantown, WV

Cost:  $25 per person until March 15; $30 per person until April 5. Registration closes on April 5. 
Registraton will open on February 1 at 8AM.

Includes:  Use of all climbing gear needed for the weekend. 

A packing list will be provided. Participants are responsible for their own trail meals.
