Participating Scouts BSA can earn the Engineering Merit Badge and Nova Whoosh! award!
Date: Saturday, June 19, 2021
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (check-in 8:30 AM at Hott Building)
Scouts must bring a bag lunch and water bottle.
Cost: $10 (covers facility, materials)
Location: Hott Building, Camp Mountaineer
Prerequisites: Requirements 1, 5 (see below)
Hosted by the West Virginia University Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Scouts will talk with various engineers, learn and interact with different simple machines, and make an engineering design.
Scouts should be dressed in field uniform ("class A") or activity uniform ("class B"). A certificate of completion will be emailed to you within a week of the class completion so you can turn it into your troop's advancement chair.
Prerequisite: Requirement 1
Watch, read, or do a combo about three hours total of engineering-related shows or documentaries that involve motion or motion-inspired technology. Then do the following:
(1) Make a list of at least five questions or ideas from the show(s) you watched.
(2) Discuss two of the questions or ideas with your counselor.

- Sally Ride: A Photobiography of America’s Pioneering Woman in Space by Tam O’Shaughnessy
- Ask an Astronaut: My Guide to Life in Space by Tim Peake
Prerequisite Requirement 5
1. On your own, design one of the following and include a drawing or sketch: an amusement park ride OR a playground fixture OR a method of transportation.
