Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training

Hosted by the Cheat District

Welcome to BALOO training! It is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters.

BALOO training is comprised of two components—an online component and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “TRAINED” Cub Scout outdoor leader. The online component must be completed prior to the practical component. The online training can be found at my.Scouting.org and contains introductory and basic information that will be built upon during the practical training. 

There are two sessions to choose from:

Morgantown:

When:  April 17-18, 2021

Where:  Camp Mountaineer, Morgantown

Fees:  $45 (Early Registration)

           $55 (After Apr 2)

REGISTRATION CLOSES 11:59 pm 4/12/21.  NO WALK – INS due to materials and food

(Please report at 7:45am for check-in and start will be at 8:45am)

 

Elkins:

When:  May 1-2

Where:  Izaak Walton League, Elkins

Fees:  $45 (Early Registration)

           $55 (After Apr 16)

REGISTRATION CLOSES 11:59 pm 4/26/21.  NO WALK – INS due to materials and food

BALOO Participants will better understand the rules and regulations of the BSA and camp programming while acquiring the skills and confidence to host a successful campout by increasing their knowledge of available resources and use national and local council standards as guidelines.

 

BALOO includes INFORMATION on:

Preparations for camping with Cub Scouts
Site Selection
Parent Involvement
Health and Safety
Equipment
Feeding
Introduction to Outdoor Skills

 

This Training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning and leading a pack campout. Any pack wishing to camp, must have at least one BALOO certified adult onsite for the campout.

.UPDATE New VERSION 2 of online BALOO - Complete the 4 prerequisites before attending: @ my.scouting.org > Baloo Prerequisites

Completing the BALOO prerequisite sections (4 courses) will create a BALOO trained certificate. Prerequisite training certificates - Print and bring them to the Course Director.  We must have these the day of training!

Also complete Hazardous Weather to be fully trained. This can be found at my.scouting.org under Program Safety.  Print and bring certificate.

 

NOTE:  Youth Protection Training must be completed before attending. Show certificate at check-in.
