Level 1 COPE & Climbing Training

Location: Camp Mountaineer

The Mountaineer Area Council will be conducting a Level 1 COPE & Climbing Training beginning Friday, August 21 at 6:00 PM and concluding Sunday, August 23 at 5:00 PM at Camp Mountaineer.
This training is designed for individuals interested in supporting the Council's COPE and Climbing programs. Participants will receive instruction in both the technical and operational aspects necessary to assist with program delivery.
Training Topics Include:
- Basic belaying techniques
- Rigging fundamentals
- Practice rescue scenarios
- Equipment use and safety procedures
- Communication and leadership skills
- Operational procedures and program support expectations
- Risk management and participant supervision
In addition to developing essential hard skills, participants will receive training in the soft skills and operational knowledge needed to effectively support the COPE and Climbing programs throughout the Mountaineer Area Council.
Meals and Accommodations
Meals will be provided beginning with Saturday breakfast and continuing through Sunday lunch. A campsite will be available for participants who wish to stay on-site during the training weekend. This campsite will include Adirondak shelters but registrants are responsible for their own camping supplies and tents if needed.
Certification
Successful completion of the Level 1 Training qualifies participants to support Mountaineer Area Council COPE and Climbing operations. Certification is valid for two years and is contingent upon continued participation, regular use of skills, and ongoing support of the Council's COPE and Climbing programs.
