Cub Scout Day Hike 2025

We are thrilled to invite you to our 2nd Annual Cub Scout Day Hike at Camp Thunderbird! This exciting event features a 3-mile trail hike for our Cub Scouts, complete with engaging activity stations along the way. The hike will conclude at the parade field, where the Cub Scouts can enjoy a picnic-style lunch followed by several field games.

This is a family-friendly event that allows for individual family registration, ensuring everyone can participate. If you’d like to hike as den or pack, please register individually and check-in together, with one person designated to lead your group.

We will be implementing staggered starts for each hike session to eliminate pre-hike wait times. Please arrive at Camp Thunderbird at least 30 minutes before your scheduled hike time.

The hike is designed to be a self-paced event, allowing the Cub Scouts to explore nature and enjoy the journey - this is all about fun, not speed!

Reminder: A parent or legal guardian must be with their Cub Scout during the event.

Registration deadline is November 1

Pricing:

Cub Scout Youth: $15

Cub Scout Adult: $10

Things to bring:

  • Appropriate footwear – The ground will likely be wet and probably muddy in places
  • Raingear – Always be prepared for rain
  • Layered clothing – It’s cold in November under those trees
  • Your Cub Scout 6 essentials – Always good to reinforce “Being Prepared”
    • First-Aid kit – Scratches and cuts can happen on the trail
    • Water bottle – Stay hydrated
    • Flashlight – Never know when it will be needed
    • Trail snacks – Hiking makes you hungry
    • Sun protection - even in November
    • Whistle – for emergency use only
  • A great attitude and readiness to have fun!

Night Hike - BSA & Venture Scouts

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our 10-Mile Night Hike Challenge! Trek under the stars through rugged terrain while testing your grit at 10 unique and challenging stations along the way. Refuel with a hearty dinner before the hike and celebrate your victory with a well-earned breakfast at the finish line. Are you ready to push your limits?

Units must select a Night Hike check in time during registration. Check in times are not your units start time for the hike. Please be at the staging area at your check in time ready for pack checks. Once the entire group is checked and ready to go, the group will be placed in a cue for their start time.

This year we have extended the event and Troops attending will be able to camp both Friday and Saturday night. You will receive your campsite assignment when you arrive on property for check-in. If your unit does not wish to overnight camp, they should indicate this during registration; your unit should arrive an hour before your Night Hike Check in time and will depart after breakfast.

Night Hike will occur no matter the weather condition, Be Prepared.

Additional Instructions will be sent to all units one (1) week prior to the event.

Reminder:

  • All units must comply with the 2-deep leadership standard at all times. If your unit is hiking on 2 or more slots your unit will need to provide 2-deep leadership for each hiking group.
  • Under Guide to Safe Scouting guidelines, all adults participating overnight with youth must be a Scouting America registered adult and have current Youth Protection Training.
