Shotgun Instructor Training

This 2-day course is intended to develop the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to plan and instruct Scouting America Shotgun shooting programs, merit badges, and NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting. Successful completion of this program will qualify candidates as NRA Shotgun Instructors, which is required to supervise Scouting America Shotgun shooting activities.
Prerequisite:
Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises where they must score a minimum of 13 hits out a 25 Trap round. There will 3 opportunities for shooting the qualifying round on course.
Description:
Course is presented in three parts: Basic Instructor Training (BIT), Basic Shotgun Shooting and Shotgun Shooting Instructor. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Shotgun Instructor Candidate Packet, and NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting course student packet.
During the course candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures; basic public speaking skills; training methodology; use of a training team and training aids; organizing a course, building a budget; and finally preparing to teach. Candidates take turns working in teams, conducting portions of the course to other candidates who portray basic students.

Saturday August 22nd – Basic Shotgun Shooting
Sunday August 23rd – Shotgun Instructor Course (BIT included)
Fees:
The course fee is $150 and includes all program materials, snacks, water and 3 rounds of trap shooting
What to Bring:
Each participant will need to provide a shotgun, 100 rounds of ammunition plus ear and eye protection and must attend both classes and pass the tests with a 90% or better score
There are no nearby food establishments so participants must bring a lunch, hydration and snacks
