Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness First Aid and CPR Training 

 

The Chugach District invites Scouts, leaders, and outdoor enthusiasts to participate in our upcoming Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Training—a vital course for anyone venturing into the backcountry. 

Whether you're planning a high-adventure trek, leading a troop into remote areas, or simply want to be ready for emergencies off the grid, this course will give you the skills and confidence to respond effectively when help is hours—or days—away. 

**Participants must have CPR certification prior to this training to be fully WFA trained. If CPR training is needed, please email Carrie or Raul and we can set this up for you.

Why Attend? 

Nationally recognized American Red Cross WFA certification 

Realistic scenarios and practical training 

Required for many Scouting America high-adventure trips 

Course Overview 

This 16-hour, hands-on course covers: 

Patient assessment and scene safety 

Treatment for wounds, fractures, burns, and hypothermia 

Managing medical emergencies in remote settings 

Evacuation techniques and decision-making 

Realistic scenarios and practical simulations 

Participants will receive a nationally recognized certification upon successful completion.

Date: November 7th and 8th.  

Time:  9am-6pm 

Location: Gorsuch

Cost: $140- Includes CPR and WFA Certification 

Age Requirement: Must be 14 years or older 

Who Should Attend? 

Scouts BSA members (14+) 

Scoutmasters and adult leaders 

This course is required for all BSA high-adventure base participants (e.g., Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base) and is highly recommended for anyone taking their troops to remote environments.
