Spring Camporee - In Seward

What: Spring Camporee in Seward
Where: Forest Acres Campground in Seward
When: May 29-31 (the weekend after Memorial Day)
Primary Activity: Improve the Two Lakes Trail. In return for free use of the campsite during prime camping season, the City has asked that we help them with trail repairs on the Two Lakes Trail. There's a history of the Council helping with the Two Lakes Trail and the City Parks and Rec Staff is well aware of it and excited for us to come back. Approximately 20 years ago the Council held a "Jamboree" in Seward and made the trail what it is today. In fact, part of the trail is referred to as the "Scout Steps". This time around they are asking that we put gravel and wood chips down along the roughly 1-mile loop. The trail is accessible from two locations, so we should be able to have four teams working at any time. In addition, they are asking for some adult help to take dead trees down and place logs and stakes to stabilize part of the trail that is eroding. We will be asking for each Troop to help on the trail for two hours.
Historic Trails Award: We plan to offer the opportunity to earn the Historic Trails Award. The award will require Scouts to (1) camp two nights, (2) learn about the historic trail (we are working to get speakers at a campfire event to talk about the importance of the Iditarod Trail, and (3) participate in an event worthy of publicity (this will be the Two Lakes Trail improvement).
