Fire Mountain Chain Saw Class
The Fire Mountian Ranger Departemnt will be offering a Chainsaw use and safety course at Camp on Sunday May 25th after Family Camp program starts to wind down from 1:00pm - 5:00pm (the course may finish sooner). The class is capped at 10 participants. Particpants must be at least 21 years old to run a chainsaw, instructors are willing to open up the class to 18-year-olds with the understanding that any participant under 21 will be able to do every part of the class except actually running the saw. Fire Mountain is looking for interest and will look at doing a second class after summer camp.
The class will cost of $30 to support safety gear for the class and safety gear for year-round use (i.e. gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs) along with a snack.
IMPORTANT NOTES: THIS CLASS WILL NOT CERTIFY YOU TO RUN A CHAIN SAW ANYWHERE EXCEPT FIRE MOUNTAIN SCOUT CAMP UNDER THE RANGER'S SPECIFIC DIRECTION AND DISCRETION. THE COURSE WILL NOT BE TEACHING FELLING AS IT IS A HUGE LIABILTY ON THE RANGER AND CAMP BUT WILL TEACH GOOD PRACTICES FOR BUCKING AND AS A SPOTTER IN CASE ONE IS NEEDED BY THE CAMP.
18 YEAR OLDS: YOU ARE INCOURAGED TO TAKE THIS CLASS AS IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO LEARN WHAT THE RANGERS EXPECT AND WILL TEACH YOU TO BE SAFE AROUND CHAINS SAWS NOT JUST AT CAMP AND POTENTIAL FUTURE USE AT CAMP.
