Geocaching is great for fun and exercise.  It’s a sport that’s a perfect fit for Scouting, and it’s a great way for Scouts and non-Scouts to share their enjoyment of the outdoors. Use your Scout skills and follow the Scout Oath and Scout Law as you embark on this new pastime.  Learn how to Geocache from experienced local cachers and earn your Geocaching Merit Badge.

The cost of registration covers the cost of two slices of delicious Papa John's pizza (either cheese OR pepperoni) and bottled water for lunch.  If you would like to bring snacks, please feel free to do so (within reason).

We will simultaneously host a Cache In / Trash Out event (1:00pm to 2:00pm) that invites local Geocachers to work along side of us while we clean up a wooded area behind the Leadership Center.  This will fulfil one of your merit badge requirements and could potentially count toward service hours (confirm with your unit leader).  Please wear long pants or tall socks to protect yourself from ticks.  We will provide bottled water and a snack!

YOU MUST HAVE PERMISSION AND A SIGNED BLUE CARD FROM YOUR SCOUTMASTER TO TAKE THIS MERIT BADGE!

Bring Along:

1. The Scout Essentials
2. A filled water bottle
3. Something to write with
4. Work gloves
5. Long pants or tall socks
6. Scout Handbook
7. Your signed Blue Card

Prerequisites:

1. Print the attached Geocaching Merit Badge Worksheet and bring it with you
2. With your parents permission, visit www.Geocaching.com and create an account.  Download the official Geocaching app on a device you will have with you for this course.  (This is not required, but suggested.)

In this class, you will complete:

1. All of the requirements to earn this badge EXCEPT requirement 9.  You will take what you learn in this class and plan a Geohunt for a group of youth and email the counselor at rebekah.nyalko@scouting.org about the experience.  Your completed Blue Card will be sent to the address included in your registration.

     • Church youth group
