Scouts who are working on the requirements for the Engineering merit badge learn about the process of building and creating products and structures. They investigate the variety of careers available in engineering. Scouts explore how engineers use a step-by-step approach to make improvements for society.
Due to the material covered and activities required, it is suggested that Scouts attending this merit badge session be in 7th grade or higher.
Pre-requisite:
Design an ORIGINAL mousetrap car using the supplies listed below. Bring the drawing for the counselor to review on November 11. This must be done to complete the merit badge.
Scouts will make a mousetrap car based on their original design drawing during the merit badge session. The cars will be raced to determine which car goes the greatest distance. Prizes will be awarded.
The following materials will be supplied by the counselor on the day of the merit badge session. ONLY THESE SUPPLIES MAY BE USED TO BUILD THE MOUSETRAP CAR. Keep this in mind when designing your car. An adult will be available with a drill if needed by any Scout. Scissors and Exacto knives will be available for use by the Scout.
Scouts will be required to provide their supply list (form will be provided) based upon their design to the counselor PRIOR to attending the class.
