Day of Service, 2024

Event Details

Service opportunity for all branches of the Scouts BSA program!

Three convenient options are available:

  1. Participate in a Food Drive supporting Feed More and its partner food banks!  Door hangers will be printed and made available to those units wishing to participate in the Food Drive in advance of our May 18th event date.  Please note that registration for this option closes on April 26th to accommodate for the printing and distribution of the door hangers.

  2. Choose from one of many Council Service Projects, which we have carefully curated to have the most impact on our community.  Finalized projects will be published by April 8th.  Day of Service coordinators will confirm your project by May 1st.

           -    Grounds beautification at Baker Elementary. (25 people limited)
6651 Willson Rd, Richmond, VA 23231

           -     Beautification project at Cub Adventure Camp (100 people limited)

      -   Area Beautification at the War Memorial.  Help the war memorial prepare for the Official Commonwealth of Virginia Memorial Day Commemoration.  Work with War Memorial staff  to prep the grounds for over 1000 visitors who will be coming to honor memorial day at the war memorial.  (25 people limited)

          -     Hanover Christian Firewood Ministry.  Hanover Christian Firewood Ministry provides wood to more than 35 families who rely on firewood as their primary source of heat. Firewood is split and delivered every Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon or 9 a.m.-1 p.m., depending on the time of year. For more information, call 804-559-8824.On May 18th, scouts and scout leaders are invited to help with the firewood ministry by splitting and stacking firewood.  The firewood will be seasoned and made ready to provide heat during the cold months of the year.  Scouts BSA scouts can split wood by hand, run log splitters, and stack wood.  Cub scouts can help with moving wood in wagons and stacking wood.  If cub scouts sign up, they will need an adult partner with them to help.  Gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection are provided and required.  You are free to bring your own as well.  Please arrive in work clothes and closed toed shoes.  A refillable water bottle would be a great thing to have.  Adult and youth liability release forms are required.  The Hanover Christian Firewood Ministry is located at Lebanon Methodist Church, 8492 Peaks Road Hanover, VA 23069.

        3. Participate in a Unit Service Project of Your Choice and tell us all about it!  We want to know all the good details, like what you're    planning to do and where you're planning to do it!  You can register your special service project right up to May 17th.
