2022 Inductions and Ceremonies Summit

Event Details

Every Arrowman, both youth and adult, needs to understand why they were inducted and the purpose of the Order of the Arrow. This Summit will give you a better understanding and gain further knowledge of the OA's Induction process, from the Unit Election through the Brotherhood Ceremony. We will take you on deep dives into the Induction process, including a focus on WHY we induct Arrowmen, key aspects of the Induction, and our Order's ceremonies.

The relationship between the Scout and the OA are built on first impressions. The Unit Election, Ordeal, and the Ordeal Ceremonies are undoubtedly many Scouts' first real interaction with the Order of the Arrow. Having a positive Induction experience is something every Scout deserves, and it is our obligation to give them this opportunity by having trained Arrowmen who exemplify the Admonition. The importance of a strong Induction and Ceremonies presence in a Lodge cannot be underestimated. To support this, Section E-9 is proud to be holding the sixth-annual Induction & Ceremonies Summit, continuing the successful tradition of our Ceremonies Weekend.

This event is for any Arrowman, no matter their position in their Lodge. Whether you are in a Lodge/Chapter Leadership or Adviser position, a Ceremonialist, involved in Unit Elections or Inductions, or a newly inducted Ordeal member, this event is planned with you in mind.

Whether you are a Lodge or Chapter leader; a Ceremonialist or an Adviser/Coach who desires to improve upon your knowledge and skill in any aspects of the Induction; you're Lodges Inductions leaders, or the Inductions Adviser who wants to better understand the Order's Induction Process; Elangomat, Unit Election team member, or a Nimat,  basically all of us Arrowmen, this event is planned with you in mind.

This weekend will give you the opportunity to interact with some outstanding National and Section trainers who will prepare you to return to your Lodge and deliver the gift of the Admonition to your Lodge's candidates and brothers.

Inductions and Ceremonies Summit is a Section-wide training and fellowship event to be held on April 1-3, 2022, at the Cub Adventure Camp on the Heart of Virginia Scout Reservation in Maidens Virginia, just west of Richmond. The weekend begins Friday night with check-in starting at 4 p.m. and course material starting at 7 p.m. All attendees will be housed in cabins and will enjoy meals prepared and served in the dining hall. Most training will be in indoor facilities conducted by NOAC trainers.

During the Summit, all participants will be inspired and trained on the following regarding the Induction:

  • How the OA supports the goals of Scouting and how the OA can strengthen youth scouts and their units
  • Explain "how and why" the Induction is designed to be a positive experience for Arrowmen; and when successfully implemented it will be life-changing
  • Share tools, resources, and best practices that can be used to improve your Lodge's Induction; and provide an excellent experience to all Arrowmen in your Lodge and ultimately to Scouts in each unit
  • The significant role that adult leaders must play in inspiring and advising Arrowmen

All participants will engage in Polestar Induction Leadership Training. Friday night and Saturday morning, we will complete the National training course on the Induction. After completing Polestar, participants will find themselves with an intensified purpose and dedication to our Order's Induction process.

Those interested in the overall Induction process will be taken through an Inductions experience, including a simulated Ordeal which will include a service project. However, unlike when you undertook your Ordeal some elements will not be duplicated.

Those interested in Ceremonies will have opportunities to train and fellowship with NOAC trainers; and then present your team's ceremony for Section E-9 evaluation at the weekend.

Adults will be exposed to tools on how to advise youth in all aspects of the Induction, but with a renewed focus on being a role model and training others to be the same.

This event will help improve your Lodge's Induction and Ceremonies, giving your Lodge's candidates and brothers the best possible experience at every level; consequently, helping deliver the gift of the Admonition.

Come and enjoy a weekend of inspirational training, fellowship and best practices that will help your lodge deliver an Induction experience all Arrowmen deserve.  Don't delay, register today.
