Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge

Event Details

Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge

Join us at Southside Speedway for one of our most popular merit badge events of the year! You'll roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and discover what really makes a vehicle run. Learn how to inspect engines, identify key components, check fluids, test batteries, examine brakes and tires, and perform the same basic maintenance every driver should know.

This isn't just sitting through a lecture. You'll work alongside experienced automotive enthusiasts, use real tools, and gain practical skills you'll use for the rest of your life. Whether you dream of restoring classic cars, racing, becoming an engineer, or simply owning your first vehicle someday, this is your chance to get under the hood and start learning.

Even better, the class is led by Eagle Scout Sean Nelson, owner of the #90 late model dirt track race car, who brings real-world experience and a passion for helping Scouts discover the world of automotive maintenance.

Saturday, October 17, 2026
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Check-in begins at 8:15 AM)
Southside Speedway | Midlothian, VA

No prerequisites are required! Because of the hands-on activities and material covered, this event is recommended for Scouts in 6th grade and older. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes—you'll be spending the morning working around real vehicles. Space is limited to 24 Scouts, so don't wait!
